The Drawing Center’s group exhibition Thread Lines disabuses the tradition of drawing as simply putting pen to paper, framing it instead as an open-ended act in which lines can be woven, stitched, even embodied. Accompanying Thread Lines, this publication includes full color illustrations of works spanning the mid-1960s to the present by sixteen artists, bringing together those pioneers who first unraveled the distinction between textile and art and a new wave of practitioners who have inherited and expanded upon their groundbreaking gestures. A curatorial essay illuminates the range of affinities between the mediums of textile and drawing across the works.
