Guillermo Kuitca: Diarios

Accompanying the exhibition Guillermo Kuitca: Diarios, the first US exhibition of Kuitca’s Diarios series, this publication features nineteen color plates of works made between 2005 and 2012. For the Diarios, Kuitca takes discarded canvases, stretches them over a table that belonged to his parents, and then spends long periods of time marking their surfaces with intentional and accidental doodles, drawings, and notations. The volume also includes illuminating texts, including an essay by German novelist Daniel Kehlmann likening Kuitca’s Diarios to “a special kind of map: panels, tabletops on which idea and form, accident and plan, everyday and artistic reality—in short, life and work—achieve a remarkable, ambiguous balance.
