Drawing All-Stars 3.0: Open Call for Applications!
Applications are due on December 17, 2023 at 12:00am ET!
ApplyDrawing All-Stars 3.0 is a free pre-professional development program for high schoolers, grades 9-11, led by Teen Art Salon in partnership with The Drawing Center. Focusing on New York City’s next generation of artists, the program supports teens to expand their drawing practices and amplify their artistic ambitions.
Through skill-development workshops and consistent studio time, young artists will build confidence in drafting, planning, and executing works of art, culminating in a large-scale drawing or series by the end of the school year. Over the course of six months, participants will strengthen observation skills, catalyze ideation, and develop individual artistic styles with the goal of pursuing drawing as a medium for experimentation and innovation.
With guidance from teaching artists, students have access to a range of resources, including The Drawing Center’s extensive archive of exhibitions and publications, to advance both their drawing practice and understanding of how drawing operates in today's world. Moreover, beyond institutional resources, contemporary drawing practices from mainstream and peripheral culture, such as anime, graphic novels, and street art will be centered to deepen students’ artistic voice.
In-person sessions will take place the first two weekends of every month from January through May 2024. Sessions include both independent creative work during studio training hours on Fridays from 4:00-7:00pm at Teen Art Salon in Long Island City and collaborative exercises from 10am-12pm at The Drawing Center galleries in Soho.
Applications are due on December 17, 2023 at 12:00am ET.
