Rirkrit Tiravanija: Demonstration Drawings

Accompanying Rirkrit Tiravanija: Demonstration Drawings, the artist’s first U.S. museum exhibition, this publication features seventy-five black-and-white reproductions of works from the artist’s ongoing series of commissioned drawings derived from photographs of demonstrations published in the International Herald Tribune. While public protests and mass demonstrations are often associated with the leftist politics of the 1960s, Tiravanija’s project reconsiders their relevance in today’s political climate. Scholarly essays provide insight into Tiravanija’s proposal, ultimately highlighting the urgency with which the Demonstration Drawings define the relevance of such demonstrations today.
