The acclaimed Trinidadian artist Peter Minshall works in the medium of mas (derived from “masquerade”), the costumed performance portion of Carnival. Accompanying the exhibition Peter Minshall: Looking at the Spirits, this publication features an essay by Luis Camnitzer alongside a selection of 19 illustrations from the hundreds of small sketches, which convey the artist’s intensive cumulative process of preparatory drawing as he envisions a full troupe of costumed performers in motion.
