Solution

The Drawing Center is pleased to present Solution #1-8, a limited edition monoprint by renowned artist Amy Sillman. Created at the legendary Two Palms Press in SoHo, this series of 8 unique monoprints feature drawing in acrylic, crayon, and silkscreen ink on handmade vintage paper.

Sillman’s work has been shaped by her basic notion of artmaking as a conduit for change. Rather than working toward beauty or grandeur, Sillman’s work proposes a cheerfully skeptical attitude toward traditional categories (such as abstraction or figuration). Instead, she continuously re-investigates various formal structures – figure and ground, color and line, painting and drawing, representation and nonrepresentation – as dichotomies that her work refutes through the presentation of energetic figures within liminal grounds. For Sillman shape, color, and drawing prevail, but always in a state of flux and situated within the context of time.

The Drawing Center's limited editions are generously donated by artists and provide critical support for all that the organization does—from groundbreaking exhibitions and publications, to education and community initiatives. All proceeds of limited edition sales benefit The Drawing Center.

Please note The Drawing Center charges a 3.5% credit card processing fee for all Limited Edition sale transactions over $1,000 (in addition to sales tax). Artist Biography

Amy Sillman was born in 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, and currently lives and works in New York. Currently on view at the Kunstmuseum Bern in Switzerland is Oh, Clock!, a focused solo show of Sillman’s painting, drawing, printmaking, and video, accompanied by a monographic catalog, which will travel to the Ludwig Forum in Aachen in March 2025. For each of the venues of the exhibition, Sillman also curated site-specific “interventions” involving each institution’s collection, which hang on walls hand-painted  on site by Sillman. An upcoming project this June 2025 will be a site-specific solo exhibition at DIA Bridgehampton, exploring the relationship of process and printmaking to the architectural space, and for which the works made for the Drawing Center were the first preliminary explorations to be expanded at DIA.  In 2022, Sillman participated in The International Exhibition of the 59th Venice Biennale, The Milk of Dreams, curated by Cecilia Alemani. In 2013, a survey show of Sillman’s work, one lump or two, curated by Helen Molesworth, was mounted at the ICA/Boston, and traveled to the Aspen Art Museum in Colorado and the Hessel Museum at Bard College, Annandale, New York. Sillman also writes about art, and a book of her essays, Faux Pas, was published by After 8 Books in Paris in 2020. The book is now in its third printing.

Her works are held in the public collections of prominent institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago; The Brooklyn Museum, New York; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. She is represented in NYC by Gladstone Gallery.
