Join Viewing Program artist Akum Maduka on Instagram Live for a tour of her studio where she will present some of her drawings and discuss her unique practice. Born in Nigeria, Maduka’s work is an ongoing investigation of the influence of cultural and religious stigma surrounding the expression of female sexuality and its complexities. She describes Nigeria as a “starting point for exploring trauma, pleasure, and the politics surrounding desire, and the normalization of its discourse.”
Tune in Tuesday, July 6 at 12:30pm EDT on our instagram to watch live. To watch past instagram live conversations, please visit our IGTV.
Viewing Program 20/21 is a new initiative that builds upon the organization’s forty-year history of offering opportunities and support to contemporary artists. The program offers sixty participating artists mentorship in the form of virtual studio visits by The Drawing Center’s Artist in Residence, Lisa Sigal, and portfolio reviews by The Drawing Center’s curatorial team.
Viewing Program 20/21 is supported by the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation and the Evelyn Toll Family Foundation.
Free online programs are made possible by The Cy Twombly Foundation.
Education and Community Programs at The Drawing Center are made possible by the May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, Inc. Additional support is provided, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation, and the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
