In the 1970s artist Alighiero Boetti made a signature series of ballpoint pen drawings exploring chance and order, systems of classification, duality, and collective labor. These large abstract drawings were made by Boetti’s students who were given specific drawing guidelines based on their genders. In conjunction withCore Sample: Open Sessions 13 artist Liz Collins will lead a workshop reconstructing Boetti’s drawing prompts to emphasize open gender classifications. Participants will be asked to identify gender categories beyond male and female, discarding the either/or aspect of Boetti’s method to focus the activity as an exploration of drawing and gender.
