Exhibition Walkthrough: Noëlig Le Roux on Ceija Stojka

Join us for an exhibition walkthrough with co-curator Noelig Le Roux in Ceija Stojka: Making Visible.

Making Visible features the work of Roma artist, activist, writer, lyricist, and singer Ceija Stojka (1933-2013). Comprising more than sixty artworks, as well as a selection of sketchbooks, archival material, and documentary films made during Stojka’s lifetime, the exhibition explores the fullness of Stojka’s production as a visual artist, centered in her Roma life and heritage. Spurred by the resurgence of extreme right nationalism in Austria and abroad, and by her experiences as a Holocaust survivor, Stojka created works of profound beauty and horror that resonate today in strikingly contemporary terms.

Noëlig Le Roux

Noëlig Le Roux is freelance curator, author and editor. Heads of exhibitions at La maison rouge - Fondation Antoine de Galbert in Paris from 2002 until 2018, he then curated exhibitions in various museums in France and abroad, including MIAM (Sète, France), MAAT Fundaçăo EDP (Lisbon, Portugal), BPS22 (Charleroi, Belgium).

He is involved in organizing the monographic exhibition devoted to Ceija Stojka (1933-2013) at La Friche de la Belle de Mai (Marseille, 2017), and at La maison rouge (Paris, 2018), curated by Xavier Marchand and Antoine de Galbert. Since, he contributed to the knowledge and diffusion of the work of Ceija Stojka, including exhibitions at the Het Valkhof Museum (Nederlands, 2019), Museo Central de Arte Reina Sofia (Spain, 2020), Malmö Konsthall (Sweden, 2021) and Muzeum Miasta Łódźi (Poland, 2024).
