Join us for the first installment of our two-part series of teen drawing workshops led by Teen Art Salon teaching artists Isabella Bustamante and Ella-Leila Sghaier Dessemond. Inspired by our current exhibition Huguette Caland: Tête-à-Tête, this workshop will encourage students to look at Caland's intricate ink drawings and her cheeky and complex line work to strengthen fluidity, instinct, and mark making in their drawing practice. Caland’s masterful use of line will serve as inspiration for young artists to develop drawing dexterity through experimenting with shape and illustration techniques.

Huguette Caland: Tête-à-Tête is the Lebanese artist’s most comprehensive solo museum exhibition in the United States to date. Charting Caland’s unorthodox path to artistic success, the exhibition spans her five-decade career and features over 100 works on paper and canvas, as well as caftans, sculptures, and notebooks on and in which she wielded her pen. Tête-à-Tête celebrates Caland’s unconventional and exuberant perspective on both life and art, and surveys how she used the medium of drawing throughout her career to challenge traditional representations of sexuality, the body, and desire.

For ages 14-19, all levels of experience are welcomed. Participation in both workshops is encouraged but not required.
