Drawing All-Stars: Open Call for Applications
Applications are due on December 23, 2021 at 12:00am ET!
ApplyDrawing All-Stars is a new, free pre-professional development program for high schoolers, grades 9-11, led by Teen Art Salon in partnership with The Drawing Center. Focusing on New York City’s next generation of artists, the program supports teens to expand their drawing practices, amplify their artistic ambitions, and nurture creative career endeavors.
Part pre-professional development program and part discussion-based cohort, Drawing All-Stars will offer a collaborative environment in which participants can build confidence in drafting, planning, executing works of art, culminating in a large-scale drawing or series by the end of the school year. Over the course of six months, participants will strengthen observation skills, catalyze ideation, and develop individual artistic styles with guidance from teaching artists. Students will have access to a range of resources--including The Drawing Center’s extensive archive of exhibitions and publications--that will advance both their drawing practice and their understanding of how drawing operates in today's world. Moreover, beyond institutional resources, contemporary drawing practices from mainstream and peripheral culture, such as anime, graphic novels, and street art will be centered to deepen students’ artistic voice.
In-person sessions will take place one weekend every month from January through June 2022. Participants will meet on Fridays from 4pm - 7pm at the Teen Art Salon studio and Saturdays from 10am - 1pm at The Drawing Center. Sessions will include both independent and collaborative creative work to encourage experimentation, curiosity, problem-solving and peer-to-peer dialogue.
Applications are due on December 23, 2021 at 12:00 am ET.
