Kay Rosen: Collages 1999–2002 presents an adventurous and exploratory drawing series springing from the artist’s larger body of text-based work. The works emerge from Rosen’s continued fascination with language and commitment to eliciting new meanings from everyday objects through the layering of text and image. Through subtle combinations of found materials, Rosen coaxes a playful humor from words, her longtime subject matter. In a wall drawing, Rosen combines found paint (a hardware store’s accidental mixture) with text, utilizing the physical space of the gallery as both page and canvas. Together, the collages and wall drawing create a poetic and compelling drawing-based installation.
