Deck the Halls: A Drawing Exhibition
December 8, 1981 – January 13, 1982
For the exhibition Deck the Halls: A Drawing Exhibition, 35 artists committed to paper remembrances and visual interpretations of the season. All of the works in this exhibition were drawings as defined by The Drawing Center as any unique work on paper. They ranged from unusual paper sculptures to cartoons to more traditional pastel landscapes, and utilized a variety of media not commonly associated with drawing, including glitter, papier-mâché, paint, and postcard reproductions. Some of these pieces, whether representational or abstract, were intended to evoke seasonal feelings of good cheer, while others illustrated more literally traditional holiday themes, including Santa, the Twelve Days of Christmas, visits to relatives, and yuletide decorations. The drawings in Deck the Halls: A Drawing Exhibition were made by architects, painters, sculptors, and illustrators, all of whom had previously shown their work at The Drawing Center.
