The Intuitionists

The Intuitionists is a collaborative project inspired by Colson Whitehead's 1999 novel The Intuitionist—a work of speculative fiction that explores the relationship between progress, technology, and difference. The exhibition considers how the collection, the database, and the aggregate serve as complementary models for the organization of information and objects in flux.

In conjunction with The Intuitionists, Drawing Papers 116 features artworks by over sixty artists in the Viewing Program created in response to a word or phrase from Whitehead’s novel. The volume also includes a text collaboratively written by the artists and exhibition organizers Heather Hart, Steffani Jemison, and Jina Valentine.
