This major touring historical exhibition, co-curated by Catherine de Zegher and Hendel Teicher, presents the work of three pioneering women artists: Hilma af Klint (Sweden, 1862–1944), Emma Kunz (Switzerland, 1892–1963), and Agnes Martin (Canada/U.S., 1912–2004). These three artists, each from a different generation spanning the last one hundred years, approach geometric abstraction not as formalism, but as a means of visualizing philosophical, scientific, and transcendental ideas. 3 x Abstraction introduces the work of af Klint and Kunz—which has been eclipsed for so long—and revisits Martin's work from a new perspective.
